Ask the Expert: Text messaging places laboratory report in consumers’ hands

Life insurance applicants now have an easy and fast way to view laboratory results. ExamOne recently announced updates to our laboratory slip which allows consumers to opt-in for texting notifications. During the specimen collection process, life insurance applicants will provide their mobile phone number on the laboratory slip and sign a Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) consent to authorize ExamOne to contact them via text when their laboratory results are ready. Let’s ask the expert, Nancy Berry, Product Owner of Inside Look, a few important questions.

Applicants can securely access their lab results by text

Q. How does it work?

A. For clients participating in ExamOne’s online laboratory results program Inside Look®, your applicants will receive a text message when their results are ready if they supplied their cell phone number and signed the consent on the laboratory slip during the exam. Please note: participation is optional, and the applicant will not be required to provide their phone number to complete the collection.

Q. Is this in compliance with TCPA?

A. Yes. All consent is between ExamOne and the consumer and is covered by our obligation to comply with all laws that apply to the services we’re providing. The consumer will sign a TCPA consent on the laboratory slip which sets forth an agreement between ExamOne and the consumer. This means the consumer opt-in is directly with ExamOne to receive text messages when their online laboratory results are ready. Applicants can access the report from their cell phone.

Q. How does the applicant view the results from the received text?

A. After the applicant receives the “welcome” message, they will get a second text that includes a link to the results. Following the instructions in the link, and engaging in the two-factor authentication process, the Inside Look report will display on their device. Results are available online for one year. Applicants can use this link as many times as they would like within the one-year timeframe.

Q. Can the applicant also view their results online?

A. Yes. The applicant can view their results in the interactive format online by going to the www.MyExamOne.com/access-my-results.The applicant will enter the ticket number from the sticker affixed to the applicant brochure and complete the registration process.
