In 2015, I Commit To: Laboratory Education

betsy headshotBetsy Sears, Executive Vice President, Laboratory Strategy and Sales dedicates herself to educating the insurance industry on laboratory, medical and risk assessment topics. If you know Betsy or have heard one of her presentations, you already know she has a strong commitment to our industry. So what has she committed to in 2015?

As the insurance arena becomes increasingly reliant on the perceived ease of simplified issue, I am committed to educating our clients on the numerous benefits of laboratory testing. According to research, 70% of medical decisions are based on lab tests.[1] Ensuring our insurance clients are utilizing our laboratory to its maximum capabilities will help provide a better picture of an applicant’s health. Our Six Sigma quality, our comprehensive list of important reflex tests and Risk IQ will play an important role in highlighting these benefits.

Our most important effort in 2015 will be the addition of a glycosylated hemoglobin (A1c) to every lab profile. We will be the first insurance laboratory in the industry to lead the effort in identifying undiagnosed diabetes, which has become a U.S. epidemic.[2] The addition of this ADA recommended diagnostic test for diabetes will assist our insurance clients in making more educated underwriting decisions and can potentially lead to a healthier insurance population.
